What are the chances of a Nuclear War? The United States against anyone? because well lets face it. Things aren't getting any better with Bush in office and the trading nuclear power to India and then accusing them of making nuclear weapons and pisses off Russia. If I remember correctly. Yet the hands on the doomsday clock hasn't moved it's still 7 minutes till midnight. Midnight being well, doomsday. So what do you think our chances are of a nuclear war? And if we have one do you think we can survive nuclear winter?

India definately has the bomb. Pakistan either has it, or is well on it's way to having it. Russia has em, but probably not in ear the capacity of it's glorious Soviet Union days. Even of the ones it has I'd be suprised if even half made it out of the silos, or even had any actual armaments. Russia's been pawning off shit for the longest time, like a crack addict who needs to score his fix. North Korea has missles that are capable of hitting California. Given enough time, money, and a litle under the table help from our dear friends in Mother russia, I'm sure they'll have the ability to hit anywhere in the us probably within 10-20 years, optimistically, and that's assuming they dont already have the capacity.Kim Jong Il is f**king crazy, without a doubt, and wouldn't hesitate to press the buton if he thought he could attack with some degree of impunity. However, I think its possible you can probably reason with him to some lesser extent.
Iran. Iran on the other hand is abso -f**king -lutely batshit insane. Their President denies the Halocaust happened, and even tried to hold some ridiculous Arab sumit to prove it. This man would be happy to see the nation of Isreal burned to ashes and leveled to the ground. This nutjob is doing everything in his power to get Nuclear. And what have we done about it? We've gone to the Un. But guess what. The UN thinks years of pointless sessions, debates and arguments is progress. The UN is the global equivalent of leaving an old man with a flashlight and awhistle to work security. I take that back. The UN doesn't even have the flashlight and whistle. And if the price is right, the members are more than happy to look the other way while genocidal rampages run rampant. And yet we keep going to them, because we're SOL. We dont have the manpower or near the support to even consider taking direct military action. Iran's going to go nuclear, wait and see. China and Russia are backing them, just as they backed Saddam.
Soon as Iran goes nuclear, you can wipe Isreal off the map prety much forever. And then, with the litle Satan out of the way, Iran'll go for the full enchilada, the great Satan itself, the USA. And we're not prepared for that. We can't even keep mexicans from crossing the border. We've sold operation of several major ports, including a military one down here in Texas, to the Chinese! Like that 80's sopng goes, things are going crazy, and they're only geting beter. The future's so bright I gota wear shades.
I say in the next 20-30 years , at least from my vantage point right now, I'd say 50/50 odds. Any nuclear war at this day and age though would be a limited exchange. I don't think we'l be facing say, fevery single nuclear power in the world firing every single one of their missles just because someone at some point in time decided to start it by firing one of their missiles. Of course, even in alimited nuclear exchange, there's no words for the tool it's going to take both on humanity and the planet itself. Can we survive Nuclear Winter? If it came down to an apocalyptic full Nuclear exchange, it'd be beter to die in the first few moments. You would be spared the horror of survival amidst the smouldering radioactive ashes of the world you used to know. We as a nation could not survive. SOme portion of the members of our government and military might have a chance, but for the population at large? We're f**ked. Some individuals, already living in the wilderness, far away from major cities and tactical targets might be able to survive, but the majority of society today is as good as dead. Case in point, I present you Hurricane Katrina. Look how many people died there, and they KNEW IT WAS COMING. They had DAYS of advance notice. The most we'd probably have is an hour or two, a couple of very long hard hours, while the missles met up above the atmosphere befre falling back down to earth and nearly exterminating humanity. Whatever's left after we're gone, the rats and the cockroaches will hold dominion over.
And that Timmy, is why there's not a Santa Claus. Oh and the cat ate your goldfish. And I ran over the cat. And never forget Timmy, you can be anything you want to be if you just try hard enough--is the single greatyest lie ever told. Your teacher's full of snot. Now go to sleep.

After much debat and reading and re-reading that, what can only be described as a rant. I must say that I disagree in a few VERY FEW points. Sure the UN sucks ass, we all know that. BUT, I think it would be sooner than 20 or 30 years. With Bush in office it could be WAY before then. The survival thing. Well, basically I would like to be a survivor. Not because I like torture, but because I know that if I could survive, I could help other survivors. Meaning the world we used to know wouldnt be so bleak after all.
I do however have one thought crossing my mind. What for f**ks sake hasnt anyone tried to change this? I mean 9 of 10 of the US poputlation likes to consider themselves as heros when it comes to gritting teeth and protecting each other. But being a hero means more than that. Sure we have the basic part of it down pat, basically its protection. But no one has ever drew the lines that must be crossed. Sure if you save a little kid from getting hit by a truck, thats being a hero. But what if you saved a country from distruction? Or better yet the world. Would that make you a bigger hero? A better person? To be honest I dont know. I cant say that's a fact or that its wrong. The only thing I know is that a person is no better or worse than the other. We are all the same. But do heros come in sizes? That's the true question.
There's tells of knights and King Arthur, Merlin and lancealot. They were all heros, but what happened to that type of thinking? That the human race is better than one or two people. The world is bigger than a building or an 80,000 dollar car that you might buy to make yourself feel better? What happened to acts of great feats? Slaying of dragons and tales of resuce and daring adventures?
Today, we have all been I reduced to the lowest of the low. If all men and women are created equal and no one person is better than any other then that means a world of change. Such as Adolf Hitler being the same as King Arthur. Dahlmer the same as George Washington. Osama bin laden the same as Constantine. Stalin the same as Ben Franklin. Yes of course that means me and you are the same as all the good and all the bad in the world. The only thing that we have to do is decide on which one scares us the most. It's about choices and it will always be about choices. The coice to lead instead of follow, kill instead of save, walk away instead of help, and change the world instead of destroying it.
With the doomsday clock we are as close as we have ever been to midnight. 7 minutes until doomsday. The odd part is it took us a grand total of 6 months after the attacks on September 11, 2001 to even move the hand from 20 til to 7 til. Thats a lot of moving folks and lets face it the world isnt getting any better.
Don't you think it's time for a change? If anyone really had the balls to stand up and say "Hey! This isnt right!" I'm sure that if it was more than one or two people, maybe a huge group, then things would start to change. I am the worst person in the world when it comes to hating politics, but even I will bend a little for the greater good, to get things done for whole of humanity. So what if we arent perfect. Its no big deal the only big deal is when people choose to sit there look down saying "there's nothing we can do about what happens in the world. One person isnt gonna change anything". Its time we stand and raise our fists to the air and come to the realization that everyone else MIGHT agree with what you are thinking, and when that happens its no longer one person. Then my friends it becomes a group of people who cant be silenced by little crossed T's and dotted I's from the UN or anywhere else in the world. I don't know about the rest of you, but I really want to change the world and one day, I just might...

I suppose it was a bit rant-ish, but it's hard not to rant given the whole 7 mins from the apocalypse knowledge lingering in the back of your head. I'm not sure where you picked up the notion that all men (and women) are equal. We are all created equal, according to the constitution, but that does not mean that we stay that way. Are you equal with Joimeless joe who left behind his wife and three kids because he chose an addiction to meth over being a loving husband and father? Are you equal with Stinky Steve Wilkins who happens to enjoy playing with his own waste? Are you equal to Stabby the Homicidal Clown who raped then knifed to death seveteeen children across 5 different states before finally being brought down in a hail of gunfire? Absolutely not.
For that matter, am I equal with Ghandi? Martin Luther King? Joan of Arc? General George Patton? Washington? Ben Franklin? Jefferson Davis? Absolutely not.
But that's beside the point I guess. The real thing to address here is that as much as I'd love to share in your can do go get em optimism, I just dont think it works that way anymore. To steal a line from Orwell, If you want a picture of the future just imagine a boot, stepping down on a human face, forever. The kicker, I think, wil be that the majority of us will be smiling the whole time. We'll vote for the boot. There are those of us who wil even go so far as to say that the boot is not enough. Sounds absurd probaly, but we never learn our lessons from history, and so we're condemned to eventually repeat them.
The problem? The problem is the cost of freedom and liberty is eternal vigilance. Who has time for eternal vigilance these days? I dont have time for eternal vigilance. Do you have time for eternal vigilance? Does the guy down the street have time for eternal vigilance? Nobody has time for responsibility or maturity or indepenent thought anymore. Can't we just pay someone else to do it for us?
American Idol is on. WWE is on, then it';s over to Tivo for last weeks TNA. I have to go out and buy all these products on the television set, because they tel me that I'm not happy unless I'm filling my life ful of ogjects and things. Then there's Bily's soccer pratcise, and then Amy has guitar lessons, then swim team, then softball, oh I'll just die if the Jones'es have a newer cell phone than mine!
Or, on the other end....I cant work. There arent jobs for me. I can't learn at this school. Education is for suckers, I'm going to go out and cap a pizza delivery guy and steal his walat because that's what the gangsta life is all about and I can't live without being cool. The government is holding me down. It's not my fauly I had 37 kids byb the time I was 18. Whatever. Whatever. It's my body and I do what I want. It's okay, the government is going to take care of me.
And the root of the real problem? Yeah, I see you there you f**king hobo. get af**king job. Oh? You lost your legs in vietnam? And your house burned down? And they quit sending your disability checks? Here's a quarter, call someone who cares.
Apathy is the problem/ Apathy is the soluition
If you've watched Se7en then you should already have seen where Im going with this about 4 or 5 paragrpahs back.
Don't yel for help. No one answers to help. You yell fire, they'l come a running. Fire? That's free entertainment. It's easier to steal to eat than work for it. It's easier to beat a child than it is to raise it. Love costs. Time, money, attention.
And who can spare that for someone other than thesmelves these days?
We're a "me"society, based around comfort and luxury. We've been spared many of the harsh conditions other nations have to endure on a daily basis. We're fat, lazy, over medicated, obsessed with our pop culture, and growing ignorant and arrogant of our place in the world. That's why the majority of our enemies hate us. Because they are both envious of our power, presitge, and plenty and at the same time afraid that we'll successfully export our culture into their homelands. Oh, and the whole we love freedom and democracy and yada yada yada, but we'l be happy to prop up and provide support for dictators in foreign countries as long as they could be useful to fulfiling out needs. Not to even mention that the Arabs are having deja vu flashbacks to the crusades and freaking out. Yeah, you remember the crusades? Me neither.
They're still pissed off about that.

As for wanting to be a survivor in a post nauclear halocaust world, no thank you. Id rather take the vaporization. Atomic warfare won't exactly unite whatever survivors there are left. assuming you had a way to actually travel, what with the radiation and the whole nuclear winter thing going on, I doubt you'd find many people to save. You'd be just as likely to get shot and killed for whatever miniscule supplies you might be carrying on you than be greeted and hailed as a hero.
Survival in a post nuclear world will not be a pretty thing.
To be fair, I'll say your odds of being hero, or geting shot and stripped of anything valuable would probably be 50/50. Eh, then again, since it is you we're talking about, being a woman you probably wouldn't be shot outright unless the other person was just compltely f**ked up...they'd probably either play nice long enough to catch you at a moment unaware and take advantage of it, or only give you a leg wound, just enough to slow you down so they could again have their way.
Probably the former though than the latter.
A woman, a healthy-ish woman, no less, would probably be something like gold after a nuclear war.
Eventually what you'd see would be small groups popping up here and there, sometimes working together, but probably more often than not fighting over food, territory and resources. Of particularly high value would be those remainig few who understood how things worked. People who could get the power back on. People who knew useful, important information. LIke where to find a large cache of weapons, especially those who could find a large cache of weapons. While there wil probably be several smal comunities based around farming/trading and cooperating with one another to survive, there'l probably be just as many if not more who'd live the life of a raider. People would join out of fear, out of necessity, some even for the thrill of it.
All of this presumes that there's enough people left after the inital exchanges, and then after the fallout, and then after the safety net of modern convenicnes is cut away. The death rate will be astronomical. Actual trained medical help would be rare. Disease will run rampant, given the often unsanitary conditions people wil be forced to live in. That's another thing. Even if you don't get shot by crazies or captured by a lone psycho/group of raiders, there's stil the threat of disease. There's no telling whatnasty shit people wil come down with once modern society breaks down and keeping up a good personal hygeine becomes almost impossible. You go traveling about you could be exposed to anything. Or worse yet expose anyone else to whatever you've got already.
Yeah, I think I'll take being erased off the face of the earth in one blinding flash as opposed to the horror of survival in a world that's basicaly been knocked back into the dark ages. But do enjoy being a hero and all, I'll be wishing you the best of luck.
Frankly, you'll need it.

Well ive read that over and over again and at this point in time, if its gonna happen, sooner rather than later. At least if it happens soon i can look at certain people who shall remain nameless and laugh as they slowly die. Even if im dying, i'd still laugh. HAHAHA!
What you think im that cold hearted? Well, maybe, we'll just have to wait and see...

Oh boo who you two never change. Boss lady is always trying to be the hero, to change the world for the better and Laz is always there hanging on to her skirt wanting nothing but to please her. Laz you have brown on your nose. And boss lady, when will you learn that just because something doesnt go your way you have the right to end the world? It doesnt work like that. If you cant save it, you cant end it. You couldnt stop the bad guys way back when and i really dont think you could stop them now. I think its time that the two of you take a long look in the mirror and know your place. Boss lady, your place is most likely in an asylum somewhere or at least locked up in some dark dank prison for the rest of your days. And Laz, since you like to do everything with boss lady, your place is right beside her. There is no changing the world. Its never gonna happen, not for the better anyway. Bravery gets you no where and whining about it will only make it worse now get off your d**n high horse and learn to stop b*t*hing. Same with you Laz. You think you have everything it takes... you dont. You couldnt even hold down a simple testing job. Or was I not supposed to say that? Opps...

Okay i did the right thing and didnt lash out on you. Its fine... But I must say Dune, If you dont like it here then you know where the door is and dont let it hit you in the ass on the way out. I am not demanding that you leave, simply giving you an option. If you do descide to stay then you have to keep the smart ass remarks to your self. I mean sure you might have a medical condition but you wont get away with lashing out here over the least little thing. That was uncalled for and we never brought you into it. But its good that you got it out of your system because this isnt gonna be like old times. We arent here for your disposal or every whim. By the by does Laz know? Does Brad? I would like to think that you would be a woman of your word and have your honor about you in such a manner that you dont lose it. Talk about an asylum? Hmmm lot of talk for someone who should be there.
I could sling mud all day at you Dune, but I would really rather not. As you can see I have a life to run. Theres so much more to it than sitting on your ass eating buttered bagels all day while my husband is off doing god only knows what to god only knows what girl in anywhere within this giant blueberry known as earth. Now find you place and stay in it. This is your first warning. DO NOT LASH OUT FOR NO APPARENT REASON! Consider yourself warned Cryst
